Czech Interview October 2009

Hi Clodagh, how do you do? The summer is ending, so a little bit traditional question, how did you enjoy it, did you have any interesting gig or experience?

Hello! I’m very good thank you. I had a great summer, I played many great parties in London, Czech, Poland & Bulgaria, went to lots of great music festivals (Glastonbury, Lovebox and Global Gathering) & I just got back from an amazing holiday in Africa. I went to Tanzania and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of my friend and raised lots of money for charity. I then went to the paradise island of Zanzibar where i did lots of snorkling etc. It was my first time to Africa & I totally fell in love with it.

Here in CZ you've already played for few times, how do you like it here? Do you go here only for a gig, or you sometimes stay for few days to visit some landmarks or to visit another party?

I always love coming to play in Czech. The parties are always great fun because the people love to party. I’ve only ever been to Czech for gigs, the parts I have seen are really pretty so I would definitely like to see more. I just wish I had more free time.

You are from Ireland, where are good known typical national costumes with men's skirts and bigpipes. Did you ever play the bagpipes and how do you take these Irish traditions?

Haha! I think you have got this mixed up with Scotland. The men’s skirts and Bagpipes are a big Scottish tradition. Ireland is famous for its tradtional Irish music & Irish dancing. I did Irish dancing for many years & won lots of competitions! I used to do solo dancing and figure dancing which is when you dance in a group of 8, 6, 4 or 2 people. Riverdance made this very famous. Irish music & dancing is very powerful... check out the famous „Riverdance“ show.

From Ireland is aslo very good known beer Guiness (my favourite), do you like it or do you prefer another kind of drinks?

Yep, now you’ve got the right country! Hehe! Yes Guinness is very famous and very Irish, it’s also good for you as it’s full of iron, but it’s also very fattening! To be honest I’m not big drinker, I didn’t drink any alcohol for 9 years! Occassionally now I drink some beer, but my favourite is a Mojito cocktail !

As we know, you had great tour with mr. himself Carl Cox, how do you commemorate these parties and how did you succeed join this legendary DJ?

Yes touring with Carl Cox (my hero) was amazing. I still can’t believe I got to do this. I was on a Djing TV show in the Uk a few years ago called „The Joy Of Decks“ and I emailed Carl asking for advice which he kindly replied. Then after the show I saw him play at a festival & I emailed him again telling him I’d love to warm up for him sometime & I sent him some demos. Then he emailed me inviting me on tour with him in France! It was amazing!

Do you have any really interesting adventure with Carl from this tour?

It was all really good fun. It was prety hardcore travelling, lots of gigs. Playing to crowds of 4000 people at his Carl Cox and Friends parties was mind blowing. The best gig for me was playing after Sasha & before Carl at a party in Toulouse. It was rocking! Carl is a great guy, a real gentleman & a total Dj inspiration to me. Everyday on tour with Carl Cox is a really interesting fun adventure.

Here you will play again with DJ Jerry, resident DJ of party Apokalypsa, where did you play half year ago. Clubbers awarded your rerformance as the best set of the party. How did you enjoy that party?

Wow, i’m really happy to hear that the clubbers enjoyed my set. That party was really amazing. It was my first really big event to play in Czech and I was blown away with the clubbers... they really know how to party! I loved every minute of it.

Similar successes can be experienced for young beginning djs. What you told to young DJs to be similarly successful as you?

I’d advise young DJs to just enjoy themselves & to believe in themselves. Don’t try to copy other Djs... develop your own sound and style. You need to be different to stand out from all the other Djs and most importantly you must play for the crowd... they are the most important. You need to make people happy. Party will be held in the Moravian region where is popular to drinking plum brandy „slivovice“ and many kind of Moravian wine.Do you have some experience in this alcoholic beverages?

The first time I went to play in Czech a friend of mine begged me to bring back a bottle of „Silvovice“ for him. I played a party with him in London the next day & he was really happy when he saw the bottle, he got really drunk on it! Hehe... I tried it but I didn’t like it, it was too strong for me!

Today's World has for several years "modern" musical direction, Minimal? Did he spoke to you somehow? You're probably like do something groovy ,didn't you?

I like all kinds of music, anything that makes me move. I don’t care what it’s called as long as it’s a good track, then I will play it. I like groovey beats, funky stuff, hard tracks, soft beats, melodic tracks... as long as it’s good I don’t care.

Many popular artists make deals with different charitable performances, Do you have experience with something similar?

I love raising money for charities. I think it’s very important. Many charities do a lot of great work, they help a lot of people and even keep a lot of people alive. Alot of these charites are voluntary organisations, which means they don’t have government funding so they rely on people’s money donations. Ever since I began Djing I’ve played at loads of charity events, put on charity parties & took part in sporting events to raise money for many different charities. So far from climbing Kilimanjaro, my friend & I have raised £1,030 for an African Children’s Charity & £1,450 for a Cancer Charity in just 3 months!!
