MONEGROS DESERT FESTIVAL SPAIN 15th JULY 2006 |

check the photos here There’s only one word to describe this techno festival & that is… AMAZING! I really can’t remember how I came across their website & found out about this festival as it was never mentioned in any Dj mag or Mixmag where every other festival was advertised, but this festival pisses on any UK festival! SERIOUSLY IT’S THE BOMB! Maybe the Spanish are trying to keep it a secret, just for themselves as it’s so bloody good… When I saw the line up I just had to go so I persuaded my sister Maureen & my friend Fiona to come with me & party to Techno for 21 hours in a desert, 2 hours outside Barcelona! It was quite an adventure we had very little Spanish between us but still managed to buy our festival tickets online & book a hostel in Barcelona & got a friend in Barcelona to get us our bus tickets to the event! So we were sorted. We flew to Girona Airport Friday night then jumped on a bus to Barcelona & found our hostel which was wicked, did a little walk around, got some food & drank some strong Sangria, one glass was enough for me… I’m such a light weight! Then we hit the sack! Zzzzzzz wanted to save our energy for the desert! Barcelona was ROASTING HOT! So what would the desert be like??? Next day we got the bus to the festival & noticed we were the only English speaking people on the bus full of Spanish clubbers who were very nice. actually I think we were the only English speaking people at the festival, 2 irish, 1 scottish & 40,000 spanish!! Hehehe! …We got there just in time 5.30pm when the festival opened, there were loads of people already there & everything was so well organised, the production & layout of the whole festival was great. Plus the SUN… it was HOT HOT HOT!!! Funnily I bumped into 2 spanish friends of mine from London Vanessa & Natalie which was a surprise! Dave Angel was rocking the main stage & Richie Hawtin was rocking another & there was Hip Hop in one of the big arenas! After about 2 hours we could feel the wind getting stronger & the sky getting darker… we were like… no way… it’s not going to rain…???? Funny last year I went to Dance Valley & man did it rain… 2 whole days of rain & I will never forget the mud, so this year I was laughing..haha… at least it will never rain in the desert! How wrong was I!!! There looked like a hurricane was about to hit & finally there was a lightening storm!!! The wind was so strong it blew over big scaffolding lighting stands! There was lots of wind & rain & the sky was being lit up with fork lightening… they had to shut down the 2 main outdoor stages & the place was in chaos… which really just added to the whole excitement of the night! Funny how things work out, as the main stages were closed we went into the house tent or “white label” tent as it was called & I had the best dance of the whole 21 hours in there! I loved Dj Ino & MC Johnny Def’s set & 2020 Vision Soundsystem Live, they were both playing wicked music & the tent was going off. I wouldn’t have probally gone into this tent if it hadn’t started raining. Finally the rain stopped & they re opened the outdoor stages. Saw a bit of the Prodigy Live, but really wanted to see Dj Rush & Bold Live. Caught the end of Method Man & then Mr. 100% Pure energy came on… Dj Rush Himself, although tonight he was Mc Rush with 2 big red devil horns sticking out of his forehead & man was he rocking it!… He really gave his all & the crowd really loved him, a real special vibe… you could feel the love… awwwwww… I really wanted to see Carl Cox play but because of the rain all the dj times were messed up & when he did play the main stage I suddenly got really tired & it was freezing cold plus the main stage area was sooooo packed, I had to leave & go into a tent… imagine there must have been about 40,000 spanish people at this event about 38,000 or those were guys. Spanish men everywhere so my sister & Fiona were very happy with all the eye candy. I went to watch a bit of Kenny Larkin’s set which was really nice & then when the sun rose & it got a bit warmer I caught the end of Carl’s set which was great, full on high energy techno. Then I saw Dave Clark, Ben Simms & then Chris Liebing & Speedy J & I really enjoyed Valentino Kanzyani’s set… wicked electro influenced pumping techno set… great. At the end I saw Misstress Barbara close the main stage, the sun was in full blast again & I had to keep running inside to a bit of Pet Duo too to get a bit of shade. All in all it was a wicked festival, the weather def had an impact on the festival, I’m sure it caused a lot of stress for the promoters & I’m sure a lot of equipment was ruined because of the rain but the 40,000 spanish clubbers were really amazing… so much energy & really good vibes, people were so polite & friendly & totally no attitude or bad behaviour. Definetly the best party crowd I’ve ever come across at a festival. Plus it’s so great to see Techno being celebrated & enjoyed so much, I really can’t understand why techno isn’t more popular in the Uk, only Global Gathering Festival has a Techno Arena, all the other festivals have 1 or 2 techno Djs & that’s it. Such a shame… So a big huge thumbs up from me & now it’s my goal to get to play here some day… now that would be AMAZING!!! So gotta go, back to work… Luv Clodagh xx |
