Pure Underground is a huge festival held every year in Poland during the summer with the biggest names on the London Underground Techno scene playing. This year the organisers threw 2 pre-parties in Warsaw & Katowice and invited me to play alongside the very experienced & fellow VinylVixen Dj Gizelle (Stay up Forever)) & Live act Berio 303.

First stop was Paragraf 51 club in Warsaw & unfortunately due to a huge free festival in the city on the same night which 4,000 people attended, the club was practically empty! What a shame, but I got up and played a very nice funky uplifting but tough techno set to the very small but very up for it crowd! Berio 303 was next up playing Live. This is the first time I had met & seen Saverio play. I was very impressed as even though he’s very young his music was wicked full on high-energy acid techno & it small crowd really got into it. Unfortunately they club stopped the party early due to the small turn out and Gizelle didn’t get to play. This really was a shame & it was unfortunate that there was this huge free festival on the same night, but that’s life. We all hoped the next party in Katowice would have a bigger turn out!

That night we stayed at one of the promoter’s Martin, beautiful family house, which was in the countryside. The mammy of the house “Hannah” spoiled us rotten with the best home cooked polish food! Yum! The next day I woke up early & as it was really hot & sunny I decided to go for a long walk. It was great; everywhere was so green, reminded me of home in Ireland & made a huge change from being in grey London! After nearly getting lost in a forest I finally found my way back to the house, sunburnt & thirsty. We all got our stuff ready & caught the train to Katowice.

When we arrived in Katowice we went straight to Club Ego at 9pm & the minute we walked in I knew this party would rock! It was a wicked small underground but very very cool basement bar & club. There was a few dj’s & friends around & there was a very friendly & happy vibe so I knew this would be a fun night! We went for dinner & after a lot of laughs & sampling of very strange cuisine we got back to the club about 11pm. The Dj at that time was playing techno so hard it would kill your granny. People were really into it & I was thinking bloody hell I should have brought some gabba! …they def like it hard in Katowice!

Gizelle got up at midnight & rocked the place with a mixture of full on underground techno along with some wicked wonky & acid tunes. She was having a great time & the crowd loved it too! Next up was Berio 303 with his excellent Live set which drove the crowd even crazier!

While he was rocking it I was getting ready & pulled out my hardest most full on having it techno. I was really looking forward to playing as berio had whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his final acid track and when it was my turn I just let rip with my first pumping techno tune & the crowd went mad! There were only about 100 people there, which was perfect for the size of the club, & the vibe was electric. I had so much fun as I hadn’t played such a hard full on pumping techno set in ages! I think I shocked a lot of people as they don’t expect a girl to play so full on & with such energy but that makes it even better! Hehehe!

Afterwards lots of people came up to thank me saying they really enjoyed my set, which is so sweet. The polish people are very nice & love to party big time! I really loved this Club Ego, small but wicked & very cool layout & decoration, even had a snake tank in the bar & a very cool sound system.

I wish London had a similar venue.

We spent the rest of the night popping between the dance floor & the front bar where the Mylo look-a-like bar tender & Berio 303 was keeping us all amused. Such a laugh! When 7am came we left the club & caught the 8am train back to Warsaw & then headed straight to the airport & after a 2 hour delay where the whole plane had to very strangely get off & identify each of their own luggage we finally made it back to London. It was my first time playing & travelling with Gizelle & Berio 303 & I really did have a wicked time, I seemed to be laughing non-stop for 2 days! Thanks Dudes!

Poland was also great, the people were so friendly & Martin, the promoter looked after us so well. Thank you Poland & I can’t wait to go back there & play, hopefully soon!
