It has always been a big dream of mine to go to Brazil & DJ. I have lots of Brazilian friends in London & you can always spot the Brazilians at the London parties because they are really high energy party people. My good friend Franky who was involved in the Spiritualised parties I ran in London, moved back to Sao Paulo and started running his own night called EVOXX with Dj Fabio Red. So when I got an email from Franky saying he wanted to book me to play at his next EVOXX party I was over the moon! With the help of DAVE the Drummer who is like the Underground Techno King in Brazil, I managed to get 5 other gigs too! So it was like YEAH! I’m going to BRAZIL!!

…3 weeks in Brazil What could possibly go wrong…

Lots actually! I really did have a big adventure in Brazil! It all started with my flight to Brazil, flying via Paris, but my flight got delayed in London because of 1 lady passenger who was seemingly wanted by the police! They then took ages to remove her baggage off the plane so I missed by connecting flight in Paris to Sao Paulo by 10 mins! The next flight out was 11pm the next night… so I was stranded in Paris for 24hours! Luckily I was put up in a hotel with a few other people who has also missed the flight, this is where I met Deogo, a Brazilian student from Sao Paulo, so the next day we went sight seeing in Paris… Arc The Triumph, Champs Elysses, The Louvre (always wanted to see the Mona Lisa!) & the Eiffel Tower! We were well tired after all that, but did manage to catch our flight to Sao Paulo & I slept nearly all the way which was great!

I couldn’t believe I was in Brazil when the plane landed! Fabio met me at the airport & took me straight to his parents hotel “Hotel Columbia” which is right in the Centro of Sao Paulo. Later I met with Franky who brought me to check out D-EDGE nightclub. It’s a very cool, small, funky nightclub with cool lights & sound & the DJ’s were plying nice electronic house beats. I haven’t seen Franky for 2 years but it was as if I had just seen him last week, so funny. I met Franky out clubbing in London in 1999 and became really good mates, lots of great memories out partying, Djing, running Spiritualised etc. So it was great to see him again & I couldn’t wait to play at his own night EVOXX!

EVOXX was held at the Cyberdog shop/club in Sao Paulo. Really cool venue & perfect for EVOXX. About 400 people came to the party & it was totally rocking. (and actually my favourite party of my whole Brazilian tour, with the best crowd!) If you are in Sao Paulo, def check out this party. Really good fun!

The next day we drove to the outdoor Klaster Mania party held just outside SP on a farm beside a river. Very cool location! DAVE the Drummer was playing a pumping full on Techno Dj Set & the crowd were on full on Party mode. SP definetily has the best & liveliest party people. After this party me, Henry (Dave the Drummer) and Henry’s wife Justine had to catch a flight to Curitiba & play at a party in Jaragua do Sul which is a 2 hour drive from Curitiba. But there was a lot of mis communication about flight times, Henry was told 11pm, I was told 10pm but the flight was actually 9pm??? & no driver arranged to bring us to the airport so we missed the bloody flight & spent 5 hours at the airport trying to get on other flights which were fully booked & finally the promoter in Jaragua do sul hired a private plane as there was 4,000 people at the party! So we got in the private plane at 3am & got to the party at 6am, but sadly a lot of people had left by then. Henry played another fantastic set, he’s such a great Dj! I started playing at 8am, really getting into it playing some really pumping techno tunes then 6 records later this guy asks me to let the next Dj play… I was like what???? … then the next Dj “DJ BAD” played 2 records & the party finished???? All that for 6 records? Big disappointment but still happy as I really enjoyed the 6 records I did play… ah well, there will be more parties to play.

After this party I had a few days off so I went to Florianopolis which is a beautiful place 5 hours south of Curitiba. It’s on a small island off the coast , which is known for its great beaches & lots of surfers. The place has such a relaxed vibe & the weather was fantastic, hot &sunny finally. Even got sunburnt!

After 2 relaxing days I headed back up to Curitiba, as I had to play on an internet radio station called the Groove Channel which is ran from AIMEC. This is Curitiba´s only electronic music school and is ran by my Brazilian Dj friend Rafael Araujo. It´s a wicked

school which has Dj & music production courses. My new good friend Dj Fernanda Martins took me to one of her music prodution classes. The teacher Ilan was really cool the class was really interesting even though it was all in Portuguese! If you live near Curitiba & want to produce music or learn to Dj then AIMEC is the place for you!

The next night I played at the Techno TV Private party held at the Euforia Bar in Curitiba. Unfortunately there was a problem and DAVE the Drummer couldn´t play, but it was still a very nice party. I thoroughly enjoyed playing

here as the small crowd were really up for it. Cool!
